Blended Learning: Research Perspectives
Hello,
I am hoping any one on this forum can offer suggestions regarding if your university or you know of a university that may have a degree that fits the requirements of my dissertation research study.
I am looking for a degree program (undergraduate or master's level) focused on the adult learner (over 25) that offers students a choice of courses offered in three instructional formats: fully online, on ground (face-to-face), and blended/hybrid. I already have two nonprofit universities (one private and one public) who have agreed to be part of my study.
I was hoping that the third case study would be a for-profit university but I have contacted many and have not found one that offers all three instructional course formats in one degree. If I cannot find a for-profit, I would like to study another university that offers significant faculty development and student training on how to be successful using these formats. I am planning to interview the administrators and faculty involved in the program planning process of developing a blended adult degree program (no students would be interviewed).
My research interest for my dissertation study is blended adult degree undergraduate or master’s programs within higher education. Basically, my study will look at how colleges are utilizing blended instructional delivery approaches for degree programs in higher education that address the needs of adult students. The purpose of this qualitative case study is to understand colleges' program planning processes for adult degree programs and how faculty and students are prepared to be successful when blended instructional delivery approaches are utilized, which include a mix of traditional, online, and
hybrid/blended course formats.
I would appreciate any leads on potential degree programs or colleges/universities that I should investigate.
I look forward to any suggestions. Feel free to e-mail me at kskibba@cc.edu.
Sincerely,
Karen Skibba
Re: Seeking Blended Programs for Research Study
Currently the Institute of Allied Medical Professions offers blended, fully online or face-to-face education. Of course our goal is to move as much as possible online. I find that once students are comfortable with an online setting, they prefer that method of teaching to face-to-face. The economy also plays a part in their decision.

Karen
Empire State College is a public college (SUNY) focused on adult learners that seems to meet your criteria for research. If you are still looking for a research partner, then investigate our website at www.esc.edu

Re: Seeking Blended Programs for Research Study
I manage a Credential Program for Child Care Administrators that is offered in face-to-face and fully online modes. With funding from the Sloan FOundation/UWM Blended Life and learning Initiative we are about to launch a blended mode as well, meaning that each of our 6 courses will be taught three times a year including once in each format (F2F, OL, BL). We serve a student population that is highly diverse, non-traditonal and low tech/high touch. All of our instructors will teach their courses in the three modes each year, so we believe we have an interesting case study for research. We don't offer a degree program, but the 18 credit credential is a pathway into an online degree program that we're currently building. Let me know if you want to know more about the program and if it might be a good fit for your research.
